How to clean and care for your mirror (without damaging it).
A well-maintained mirror not only looks better; it lasts longer too. But it’s not impossible to unknowingly damage your mirrors by using the wrong products or cleaning techniques. Here’s how to keep yours sparkling clean without a single streak or scratch.
1. Use the right cloth.
Avoid paper towels or abrasive sponges: they can leave fibres or fine scratches. Instead, use a proper glass cleaning cloth like our glass and mirror cleaning cloth set. It’s a two-step system: wet one cloth with cold water, wring it out, and wipe the mirror thoroughly. Then use the second dry cloth to polish and buff to a streak-free shine.
2. Skip the chemical sprays.
Harsh chemicals can wear away protective coatings and damage mirror edges over time. All you need is water, honestly. If you’ve got stubborn spots, a tiny bit of mild dish soap in water will do. Wipe gently and follow with the dry cloth to polish.
3. Clean from the top down.
Gravity does the work for you when you start at the top. That way, drips won’t run down onto areas you’ve already cleaned. Use even pressure, and don’t forget to get into the corners.
4. Mind the edges.
Moisture getting behind the glass is the most common cause of mirror deterioration. That’s why it’s important not to oversaturate your cloth, and why our waffle-texture cloths are ideal. They remove grime without pooling water.
5. Keep it dry afterwards.
If your mirror is in a bathroom, always make sure it gets good ventilation to avoid moisture buildup. And give it a quick wipe if you notice condensation - it helps prevent long-term damage.
